New York.

As part of enrolling in this Media AS Course we were offered the chance to gone a 4 day trip to the city of NEW YORK in the USA. This trip was amazing. We learnt a lot along with having a good time! We had a 4 hour media workshop where we learnt to film act and edit. We learnt about techniques used in the filiming industry like special tricks with lighting (lighting boards) than can be simply made at home. We were taught about the Camera's how they work and how the film works and digital cameras and what is best to have. We were split into groups and each group got the chance to film their own scene. When it was my groups turn to film i was the actress but also learnt things about Directing and the Snap/actionBoard etc. We also got the chance to go on a Film tour around New York, we saw loads of different locations of some of our favourite TV shows and films including Sex and the City, Ugly Betty, I Am Legend and Coyote Ugly. And ofcourse we got to do some shopping in Times Square/5th Avenue etc. but overall New York was a fabulous experience -Take Me Backk!!

Preliminary :)

This is our Preliminary Video - all edited and everything, Enjoy :)

Due to some camera shortage's our ideas had to be re-worked for our preliminary task. When we finally got the camera we firstly had to change; our cast, we were still able to use Amy Thorburn as the main character in our plot, however due to Mr.Foxton not being avalible when we finally got a camera, we decided to get a replacement in the name of Mr Zaidi, this still worked well with our plan as Mr Zaidi played the part well. The other idea we had to change was the location of our task, we changed from using a Science classroom as the doctors office, to Mr.Kennedy's Office, this was becuase all the science classrooms were busy at the time when we wanted to film. Instead we used Mr Kennedy's office because the layout of the room and the objects worked well to our advantage because they, with a few adjustments, worked to look very convincing Consultants room. After filming our video, we needed to edit the film. Instead of having each shot switching sharply, we decided to merge some shots together to make the video flow alot easier. We also decided to add non-Digetic sound to it, we added the begining of Beyonce Knowles's "Halo" to the end of our video, we chose the begining part of the song because there was so singing in this part just angelic like music. As a group we also felt that putting it at the end worked better than playing it at the begining of the film or all the way through as at the end she recieves the bad news, which was a perfect que to play.

Techniques used.

We were asked to use different camera shots and techniques in our preliminery, we thought about the different ones we could use, and what techniques would be suitable and effective. The sort of techniques we used included the 180 degree rule, high camera angles, mid angles, close ups, over the shoulder. So these are the shots we used and info all about them with examples:

High Angle Shot - a high angle shot is usually when the camera is located above the eyeline.
With this type of angle, the camera looks down on the subject and the point of focus often get "swallowed up" by the setting.High angle shots also make the figure or object seem vulnerable or powerless.

Close Up - close-up's tightly frames a person or an object. Close-ups are one of the standard shots used regularly with medium shots and long shots. Close-ups display the most detail, but they do not include the broader scene. Moving in to a close-up or away from a close-up is a common type of zooming.

Over the shoulder - is a shot of someone or something taken over the shoulder of another person. The back of the shoulder and head of this person is used to frame the image of whatever the camera is pointing toward. This type of shot is very common when two characters are having a discussion and will usually follow an estabilishing shot which helps the audience place the characters in their setting.
